5C: Our best practice NetSuite implementation process

In the two decades since we began implementing and supporting NetSuite ERP systems, we’ve gained a whole range of skills, learning and experience from delivering over 130 successful implementations.

From all that gained experience, we developed our own proprietary implementation process, which combines software engineering techniques with change management best practice, all packaged around the latest agile development methodologies.

We call it the 5C implementation process and it consists of five distinct stages: Consultancy, Configuration, Customisation, Coaching and Care. It’s designed to adapt to the needs of our customers, ensures best results, and provides time and cost savings.

The 5C Implementation Process

1. Consultancy

We begin each project with a consultancy stage which allows us to understand the size and scope of the change management process in relation to the business and the market in which it operates. Next, we complete a comprehensive review of the business model to ensure every part of the existing business process is in line with a best practice approach. This provides a full understanding of how NetSuite needs to integrate into the business and the scope of integration and customisation work that will be required.

2. Configuration

Once we understand the exact requirements of the project, our business analysts, business process and software engineers align the processes of the NetSuite system with the detailed map we have developed of the business.

A major part of the configuration stage is the migration of business data from the old systems into NetSuite. Our business and technical consultants have huge experience in data migration and understand the challenges involved in both moving – and validating – the data, reducing the risk of delays or data loss.

3. Customisation

Where customisation is required, our consultants work with the client to understand their requirements, suggest best practice approaches and define the functionality of the extension.

Our customisation process is built around software engineering best practice. Our team of business process engineers, software engineers and specialist developers specify, architect, and build new features and extensions for the NetSuite system.

We employ an agile development process that breaks down development tasks into a series of sprints undertaken by specialist teams to rapidly prototype, develop and test new functionality. Once the development work is complete, the new functionality is added to the software core.

4. Coaching

Once the configuration and customisation work is completed and before the system goes live, we design and run a coaching programme for key personnel in the organisation. This coaching takes place in a sandbox environment as part of our customer acceptance testing procedures, enabling the client to be confident that the system is ready for go-live.

5. Care

We offer a range of aftercare plans to ensure that our clients get the most out of their investment and is tailored to their business needs and growth ambitions. Once a project is live, we assign a support team who work with the client to design an aftercare ‘roadmap’. Our Care plans include a mixture of business consultancy, software development, ongoing coaching and technical support.

The best start for your NetSuite journey
